Troy Thompson, Tourism Marketing Consultant
A common question among peers is which posts / articles do you find to be the most difficult to write? The answer is always the same, and quite easy, posts centered around myself.
So to begin this blatant self-promoting post, I will skip directly to the point and then explain myself.
I have decided to work for myself, consult, freelance, etc as a Marketing / Interactive Consultant.
Whichever description you prefer is fine with me. For now, I will stick with consultant.
Those of you who know me well are probably not surprised. I truly enjoy writing for the Travel 2.0 blog, as well as Tnooz, consulting / helping my fellow peers and speaking at industry conferences. Unfortunately, holding down a full-time job did not leave much room for the blog, consulting or speaking.
So, after much thought, I decided that now was an ideal time to focus my efforts and see if I could actually live the self-employed dream.
Now, that is not to say I would never go back to private industry...you never know what offers might be out there, considering I have already received one very flattering offer (thanks ER!)...but for now, it is the consultant / freelance path.
While I am still planning to plan, the my basic focus will be:
- Tourism Marketing
- Brand Strategy / Development
- Social Media Marketing
- Interactive Marketing (Display, SEO, Multivariate, etc.)
- Consumer Perception / Analytics
- Industry Speaking Appearances
More to come, along with a shiny new 'consulting' page on the Travel 2.0 site.
I would have preferred to have that page active prior to the announcement, however I already have work for a new client...so the page will have to wait a week or so.
Finally, a big thanks to all of the readers and fans of the Travel 2.0 blog. Honestly, I would not have the confidence to strike out on my own without your readership and support over the last 3 years.
I promise to keep the blog as opinionated as ever...no sales pitch from me...
...well, except for this post.
- Troy
